Great TV

For the money, let me just say, this is an amazing TV. The picture quality is fantastic. Color and contrast look great. The sound is pretty good too.
Channel-changing speed, a fingerprint-prone bezel, and a weak tuner are pretty ridiculous "cons" if you ask me. Personally, I didn't even notice the delay. And at most, it's still only a minor inconvenience. To the second con, the majority of HDTV bezels out there are shiny and it's not like you should need to touch the TV that often anyway. I think this model actually has one of the nicest looking bezels on the market with a champagne gradient finish on its lower portion. Tuner quality really shouldn't be a deciding factor when purchasing an HDTV, and surely not a dealbreaker. In my opinion, that's really letting a somewhat outdated technology determine a newer technology purchase. With a majority of people getting their signals from either cable or satellite, tuner quality is sort of non-issue.
Screen glare. Not an issue.
I bought this TV for HDMI content from both my computer and XBOX, as well as for HD programming. The 1080p and 120hz definitely deliver. FYI, I work with professional editors in my line of work. At one of the editing houses I commented how I had just gotten the newer version of one of their TVs. They told me that for their screens, they always go with Sharp because of the quality for the money. |

I am by no means a tech wiz so I will not get into the technical aspects of the product. Our TV is connected via Satellite HD box.
The picture quality of the TV is amazing. The colors are very natural. I did not have to tweak the picture quality setting. The factory default setting was great. The menu is very intuitive. I was able to play around with color and sound setting without reading the manual.
We did not find the screen to be very reflective. It is matte finish and does not reflect light. We have two table lamps sitting diagonally to the TV. Bezel is little shiny though that is true for Sony and Samsung as well.
Sound quality is good for regular watching. We did not use the inbuilt tuner of the TV hence cannot comment on its usefulness.
In all for the price, features, and picture quality the TV is a great value for money. Sony and Samsungs with same features and comparable picture quality are at least 20-25% more expensive.

Great LCD

I purchased this Aquos model around the middle of May. About a week later, I noticed a problem with the LCD. I believe it was there the whole time, just never noticed it until a week later. When the screen displays a white background/image, like the "I'm Mac / I'm PC" commercials, HALF of the screen will display the white image correctly while the other half of the screen has a blue/greenish tint over the white.
Called Sharp and they dispatched a technician to my house the following day. Technician could not fix the problem and suspected it was a control board issue. Long story short, Sharp decided to replace my LCD with a new one since they do not have available parts to fix the problem.
So after two and half week in the repair shop, I received my new Aquos yesterday and I am happy to report that the problem is not present in the replacment LCD.
OVERALL, while I do question Sharp's quality control, I still like my Sharp Aquos and would probably buy it again. I have connected my HD Satelite via HDMI and HD material looks bright and very clear. OTA tuner works well and pictures are excellent. Did not notice any "ghosting" effect people have said. Also, while switching channel is not the fastest, it is certainly not the slowest. Certainly not considered a problem. Remote control is big and bulky. I have not tested Bluray yet, but hope to soon. Standard Def DVD looks fine, upconverted to 1080P. Speakers are adequate for a bedroom.
For price I paid, I am very satisfied with features. A similarly spec'd Samsung or Sony cost about $200 more. In my untrained opinion, I think the Sharp looks as good if not, better than Sony and Samsung. My opinion. Hope this helps. |
